Movement guide

How to choose yoga pants for an active flow

In an active flow, you may move from standing to folding, lunging, and balancing in a short span of time. Your yoga pants should move with you without needing attention between poses.

Start with the waistband

Try several movements in a row. If you repeatedly pull the waistband up or down, try another fit. A firmer waistband should feel secure while allowing comfortable breathing.

Test movement, not just stretch

Fabric can stretch yet still feel restrictive in a deep lunge. Try a squat, forward fold, and high lunge. Notice whether the pants pull at the knees or hips, bunch behind the knees, or leave you adjusting the seams.

Check coverage while moving

A mirror check while standing tells only part of the story. Check coverage during a squat and forward fold, preferably in the same lighting you’ll practice in.

Who might choose something else?

If your practice centers on long holds, breathwork, or restoration, softness and ease may matter more than a stay-put fit for quick transitions. The best pair depends on how you practice, not on the intensity of someone else’s class.

Try this before deciding: Move through your usual squat, fold, and lunge without adjusting the garment. If you can focus on the movement instead of your pants, you have found a promising fit.
